Solar Power Energy

Solar Power Energy

Solar power is the most abundant, natural, and renewable resource we currently have on the planet at this time.  Over the past two decades solar power generation technology has advanced by leaps and bounds in output, and durability. It has also decreased in complexity and price allowing people to install units on their homes. This allows people who can afford it the ability to go completely green with the energy they use.

Solar power in general is using the radiation given off by the sun to generate power. This is traditionally done by using solar collectors and mirrors on a solar farm to collect the energy and transmit it to a converter, which then convert it into usable current. This is just one method that is currently used in the United States and the method used in your country may be different. That’s one of the nicer things about solar power; there are multiple types of setups that produce the same results.

However solar power is different from solar energy. Solar energy is just using what we receive here on the ground and not amplifying it. This is what the units that you install on your house do. They do not amplify or modify the energy, they just simply collect and convert what reaches them. Another instance of solar energy was to use collectors like solar panels and then transfer the energy to heating rods to boil water, and then use the steam to push turbines thereby generating power.

This was an old idea in the U.S.A and this particular system isn’t used much anymore. Solar power is taking the light, warmth, and radiation given off by the sun, and refocusing it with mirrors. Essentially we use giant parabolic magnifying glasses to intensify the beam and direct it at a central gathering point. This is a massive amount of energy compared to simple collectors and is much more powerful.

The amount of devices turning to solar power for their energy source is becoming more numerous. There are solar powered traffic signals; watches, outdoor lighting, and newer cars are even using it to power their ventilation systems. What we once considered science fiction on the subject is quickly becoming a reality. This frightens some people as they are slow to accept change and adapt but most come around sooner or later.

Solar power in general whether it be gathered naturally or modified and focused is a profound alternative to fossil fuels. The sun is there, it’s giving off all of this energy, and we might as well use it. Solar power produces no gases, no toxic smoke, and does not harm the environment. Yes it does not work when there is heavy cloud cover and storms but that’s why we have battery stations.

So in closing solar power and solar energy are similar but different. Using solar energy to power your home can allow you to take it off the local power grid and not be dependant on coal or natural gas. Now natural gas is cleaner than coal, but it still has emissions, and again solar power has none. Many states and cities are considering building solar power stations as an answer to the current energy crisis.
